Unconventional Conference Outfits for Networking Events

To help market Wyrm Engineering and to raise funds to allow me to create marketing material for this endeavour I wanted to create merchandise that would help me stand out in conferences and exhibitions. Whenever you go to networking events, such as conferences you usually see folk in suits or in basic polo shirts with the company logo. I didn’t want to wear a suit and felt polo shirts were basic and you just blend in the background. I could have used Wyrm Engineering colours which are blue and purple, but I thought why not marry my love for space and anime to create a unique look.

Wyrm is a type of dragon which is often portrayed as having a snake like body with a dragon head. What helped was I know anime can be quite divisive as while it is a popular subgenre it isn’t to everyone’s tastes. So, I wanted to utilise that by commissioning 3 graphic artists to create three flamboyant designs that I planned to wear at conferences. I got a lot of positive feedback on my shirts, and they were a great ice breaker especially if you hate small talk like I do and having to constantly repeat the same story. I also got folk telling they disliked them which was also a positive. The reason why I found negative feedback a success was it helps me being remembered. If I wore a suit or a polo shirt with the Wyrm Engineering logo, I would be easily forgettable so having good and bad responses than lukewarm helps me stand out.

I realised that having anime space themed clothing was a nice niche to have and could be used to raise funds for marketing and being able to afford to go to more conferences. Outside of space and anime my other passions are fitness and gaming so I felt I could develop Wyrm Engineering and space themed gaming accessories and sports clothing that I could wear in the gym or go out running and use my own mouse pad for gaming and working on space concepts.

I wanted to share the reason behind the style of the merchandise to the world and where I’d like to take this in the future.
